FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • Click here to view a complete list of civil liberties and freedoms the commonwealth denies lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

  • What are the different flags at the bottom of the logo?

  •

Kentucky Equality Federation Statement of Values (what we believe).

We support the institution of the family and seek to increase its stability and vitality as a foundation of our communities for all people.

We advocate, condone, and support ratifying laws protecting all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender ("LGBT") people from discrimination by the government:

    bullet

We advocate, condone, and support the rights individual LGBT people and LGBT partners to adopt children equal to the current laws for heterosexuals.

    bullet

We support equality for all persons regardless of sexual orientation, color, nationality, age, gender (or gender identity).

    bullet

In place of civil marriage rights in the commonwealth being extended to same-sex couples, we believe that civil unions, domestic partnerships, or other state-recognized arrangements would provide some of the benefits of marriage; we likewise support these arrangements.

    bullet

We advocate educating the general public about the LGBT community as a way of building better understanding and mutual respect.

    bullet

We support/advocate the establishment of Gay-Straight Alliances ("GSAs") in public high schools allowing LGBT teenagers struggling with their sexuality and who are in need of peer support to form appropriate groups to discuss their feelings. We believe this fosters a better understanding of the community.

We believe the federal government has grown too large, too intrusive, and too expensive:

    bullet

We want to end laws and programs that don't work, cause harm, and violate the Constitution.

    bullet

We want the full force of the 9th and 10th amendments of the federal constitution to be realized, which reserves most social functions and authority to the people and the states.

We advocate teaching ethical behavior to all students and promoting tolerance in the commonwealth's public schools.
